Wound infection after shave biosy

This photo shows pretty significant cellulitis resulting from a wound infection. The key give away in this photo is the redness around the wound which spreads much further than 1 cm and is asymmetrical (i.e. the edge of the redness is further from the wound closer to the ankle). The patient also had significant pain in his leg. This infection was quite stubborn and required IV antibiotics to clear. An infection requiring antibiotics after a biopsy (rather than an excision or graft) is quite rare, even if done in a high risk area like close to the ankle in this example. The adjacent wound which is not infected is higher up the leg and was less likely to become infected.
